Healing the broken bond between our young and nature is in our self interest, not only because aesthetics or justice demands it, but also because our mental, physical, and spiritual health depends on it.

Richard Louv

The North Carolina Children and Nature Coalition (NCCAN!) is part of a growing worldwide movement to reconnect children with nature, inspired by Richard Louv’s book, Last Child in the Woods.

NCCAN! raises awareness of the issue of children’s healthy development as inextricably linked to play and a relationship to the natural world. To create a world in which all children play, learn, and grow with nature in their everyday lives, NCCAN! engages individuals, agencies and organizations to promote personal, institutional, policy and cultural change.
